Groundwork NE & Cumbria are our local trusted organisation, or LTO. Local Trust insist that each Big Local has an LTO to provide financial oversight and good governance as most Big Locals aren’t constituted organisations.
Big Local is an exciting opportunity for residents in 150 areas around England to use at least £1m each to make a massive and lasting positive difference to their communities. Big Local brings together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live. Big Local is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and managed by Local Trust. Nationally we work with a range of partners to deliver Big Local, building on the skills and experiences of others to provide expert advice and support for residents.
The community of residents make the decisions and shape the work. We are continually consulting and listening to what local people have to say, we use this information to help us create a plan of action. An elected group of residents then ensure these plans are kept on track and money is spent accordingly as members of a decision-making panel, or DMP. They are like a board created to make sure resident voices are being heard.
Yes you can. We are always looking for new ways to engage local people in the work we are doing, whatever skill or passion you have we can use for the benefit of our programme to help make the area an even better place to live. Get in touch to discuss how to make this possible.
Yes. We have 2 ways that you can help us in our work. Anyone with a good idea to benefit the community can apply for a Community Fund grant of up to £500 to help make our area an even better place to live. Whether it is taking local residents on a day trip or you need equipment for your club we have a simple and quick process that can help if approved. We have a bigger sum of money that we use to target specific larger work, if you have an exceptional idea or way to make an impact in our area, the idea targets our priority work themes and is approved by our DMP we can consider that idea for approval.
